About the Author
Bob Flaws, one of the most famous English-language teachers, authors and practitioners of Chinese medicine in the world, has published scores of books and hundreds of articles on all aspects of Chinese medicine. He is renowned for the knowledge, clarity, and passion he brings to his work. He began his study of acupuncture and Chinese medicine in 1977 and was in practice for 25 years before he devoted all his energy to research, teaching and writing. Bob is a Fellow & past Governor of the Nat l. academy of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine, a founder; past president, and Lifetime Fellow of the Acupuncture Association of Colorado; and a Fellow of the Register of Chinese Herbal Medicine (UK).

good reference guide for the TCM-curious and those on a vibrant health quest

This is an interesting, pleasingly short read for those interested in dietary wisdom that is thousands of years old, tried and true. There is a great deal to *digest* here and Bob Flaws makes the info easily accessible to laypeople. Among the most meaningful tips for my own constitution which I walked away with (some are common concepts, others are new to me) are these: eat more cooked vegetables, avoid cold and raw foods whenever possible, eat way less meat (land and sea animals), eat more whole grains, eat smaller quantities, drink a small amt. of warm beverage with meals; avoid dairy, coffee, refined sugar, and processed foods.
I have a renewed respect for Traditional Chinese Medicine after reading this book. It makes a lot of sense, as borne out by practicing some of the tenets on myself and seeing how these practices play out in others. The book makes me want to cook more meals at home, and there are many helpful recipes in the book.
Cons: This book, like all the other TCM info I've accessed through books, online, and TCM practitioners, lacks explanations of what this mysterious dampness, cold, heat, and qi really are, molecule-wise and perhaps using other descriptions, detailed ones. Why keep us in the dark?? All esoteric concepts such as this should be explained, or it is a letdown and a disservice to those who seek answers.
