John Jordan is the editor of the Warship annual and a lifelong student of French naval history on which he has written extensively.
Stephen Dent is the assistant editor of Conway's Warship annual. He also edited Conway's The War At Sea (2008).

This annual is becoming a rite of summer for me

Ten years ago the Warship "annual" was going through a rough patch. I put annual in scare quotes because one never knew if or when it was going to appear; in a seven year span it appeared only five times.
But those days are in the rear view mirror. For the last five years Warship has appeared on Amazon around the new year and has shown up in my mail box in June. The quality of the articles and features has been consistently high. This has to be in large part due to the editorship of John Jordan and Stephen Dent.
This year was well up to the standards of the previous ones. All the articles were interesting and informative, even the ones of a type which I'm normally not the biggest fan of, like articles that focus on service history instead of technical features. I wasn't holding out much hope that "TB 191 - A Tasmanian Torpedo Boat" would have much of interest. I was pleasantly surprised.
My favorite articles this year were "Building the Grand Fleet: 1906 -1916" and "Modern Air-Independent Propulsion Equipped Submarines". The former articles gives a wonderful overview of the infrastructure Britain had in place when faced with a challenge from Germany to her naval superiority. Great stuff. The latter article was also very welcome because I had pretty much lost touch with the latest advances in non-nuclear propulsion.
The features are also outstanding, particularly the 20 pages of book reviews which always have a few titles I can place on my wish list. Also, several titles that I have already read are reviewed and it is interesting to see if the reviewer's opinion matches my own. This year there is a new wrinkle with a few pages devoted to non-English titles.
Very highly recommended. The only possible reservation I can come up with is that this book is not for the warship novice; it does assume a fair amount of nautical savvy on the reader's part.
