Messerschmitt Bf-110G Night Fighter

The Me -110 was first flown in 1936. It was intended as a long range fighter destroyer. Due to lack of maneuverability, it evolved into ground support and also a night fighter. It is this last version that is covered here. 29 pages of the book are color photos of a sole surviving Me-110G from the RAF Museum in Hendon, England.
There are many shots of all aspects of the plane - perfect for modelers. Details of the cockpit, engine, weapons, wheel wells, stencils, unit and national markings, everything is shown here. Additional B&W photos of this plane and WW2 photos, line drawings and 4 pages of color drawings help the reader see this plane in very good close up detail.
Four stars - some of the color photos are a tad blurry. Not sure why. Still, you can see the original paint schemes. This book gives a very good idea of the state of night fighter technology in 1944/45. I recommend this book for anyone building a model of a German night fighter (the author even gives RAL paint numbers) as well as those interested in German efforts to stop the round the clock bombing effort of the Germans.

Nose-to-Tail Photo Guide to the Bf 110 Gustav!

WALK AROUND #24 from Squadron/Signal devotes itself to Messerschmitt's twin-engine nightfighter, serving up the usual 80 pages of well-captioned, black & white and color photographs or color side-views. Air war enthusiasts will enjoy this nuts-and-bolts tour of the potent Bf 110G, which was responsible for the destruction of thousands of RAF - and USAAF - bombers.
As with other Walk Arounds, Ron Mackay's book has alternating pages of black & white or color photos/artwork. Most of the photos in #24 are contemporary shots of Werke Nummer 730301, the Bf 110G located at the RAF Museum in Hendon, North London. Eight pages are wartime snaps.
Though the Hendon Bf 110G has been repainted, internally it is still in original condition. So paging through the photos of it found in #24 is like viewing a time capsule from World War II.
I'm not a big fan of nuts-and-bolts aircraft books but I thought WALK AROUND MESSERSCHMITT Bf 110G was quite interesting and informative. It was a hoot to be able to peer into the cockpit of 730301 and realize that's how it looked in 1945! Recommended.
