Once you start reading, you can't stop.

I bought this book with every intention of reading it on my flight next week. Mistakenly, I figured, I'd read a little of the first chapter. Two hours later, I'm halfway done with entire book. It's well written and engaging. Must read if you're GREENWALL.

Being a fan of OpTic Gaming for many years, it is really awesome to finally see their biggest members share their stories. Whether you are into video games or not, this book is a great read simply because it is not just about video games but it's also about their personal lives and how they have been changed by competitive gaming. I have learned a lot about these authors that I had never known before. While many might not think a book about eSports and video games would be interesting, there are a lot of struggles each of these people had to go through in order to become the successful organization that they are today.

This handy reference manual is in its second edition of print. The author starts off with basic anatomy of the horse, covering bones through to the outer layer of skin. She explains functions of each topic area(bones, tendons, ligaments, muscles, skin, lungs, heart, etc.)to enable Horse Owners to practise preventative medicine and thereby prevent injuries from occuring. The author covers stresses for each area, common areas of injury and the whys of such; rehabilitation techniques--with the pros and cons of each; short and long term weaknesses that can occur; and much, much more!
This book is highly recommended for the Horse Owner or Rider's Library.

I was disappointed in this book, would not have purchased it if I had had it in hand. But I have been a full time trainer for over 50 years, written a number of articles on the subject, was editor of Equine Sports Medicine News so my opinion is from a professionals standpoint. Good book for amateur owners and those with a need to know more about their horse.

Love this book - totally improved my skin!

I cannot say enough how much I love this book... easy, nurturing and women-positive suggestions. Not caddy and shallow like many "skin help" books. Advice is easy to follow and straight-forward. I will say however, that what is referred to as "lotion" is really what American's think of as "toner." However, when selecting one to use for the all-important "lotion mask," which I do twice a day you only need a HYDRATING Toner. I use Avalon Organic's Lavender Hydrating Toner for my combo/normal skin. It is AMAZING! Takes out your blackheads while hydrating and refreshing your skin... my ruddiness at the bottom of my cheeks is gone! B/c of the twice daily massages and addition of an Aveeno syrum and sunblock to my regime my 30-something skin looks FLAWLESS! Just don't feel pressure to buy expensive products any relatively natural or organic drugstore brands will do! Finally, I didn't want to buy the big sheets of cotton so I order Cotton Clouds that I wet and add toner to and then separate into thin pieces and lay allover my face like a puzzle for the 3 min lotion mask.

Noticeable difference happened very quickly with my vegan products

Let me start by saying that I already used very high quality vegan products and I also use a lot of essential oils (always from doTerra or Young Living) because I am 44 years old and am trying (pretty successfully) to stave of aging. So the issue of expense or buying more products as noted by some was not an issue for me. I already used moisturizing toner (or lotion as called in the book), serum, and moisturizer. My regular products from Caudalie, Arbonne, and doTerra had already taken at least 10 years off my 44-year old face; so I wasn't expecting much more. My biggest issues were smile lines (not bad...but getting worse), rough looking skin, and the recent subtle appearance of age spots on my forehead (issues from the lower layers to be treated through massage and serums, according to the book). Although money isn't an issue, time is (I work 60-70 hour weeks already). This definitely takes more time...perhaps 10 more minutes...but it has brought about such an immediate improvement, that I will find the time.

I was shocked that I started to see additional dramatic differences within days. I started by attacking the wrinkles and texture. The most notable difference was in the smile lines around my eyes and wrinkles in my forehead. I make my own wrinkle tonic from equal parts frankensense, lavendar, and lemon essential oils from doTerra and I started using that first (putting it on and spreading it out. I then immediately cover the oil up with some Arbonne eye cream (just a little to keep the oils from evaporating), and doing the piano, pinching and ironing techniques shown. (For younger ladies, Patchouli oil is known to prevent wrinkles). For me the "ironing" totally worked....and quickly. I think working my wrinkle elixir in more conscientiously (and moving skin that had apparently atrophied) really allowed the oils to work their magic.

The texture of my whole face got so much nicer. I tried using toners (lotions) from Arbonne and Caudalie in the 3 minute mask and found both worked great(caudalie's is cheaper)! I mixed up moisturizers too, and found noticeable results with everything I had on hand. The technique is time consuming. So, to reduce the time, I do the massages of the lymph nodes when doing the 3-minute mask. I use a little lavender essential oil (which is known to help the lymph nodes drain) on the skin to allow for a nice soothing massage. I also put a warm washcloth over the mask, as my face gets really cold as the evaporation occurs. It helped to put the lavender in a roller ball for convenience, since I can't see with the hand towel over my face...I must look ridiculous! (I'm also pretty pathetic at pulling the japanese pads into 5 layers...usually I get 4 ripped up ones).

The last few days I have turned to the age spots. I have been using caudalie vinoperfect (meant for brightening and age spot reduction). Again, the response from my skin was nearly immediate. The massage techniques (and I warm my face using my hands for about 15 seconds at the end) really seems to get the serum in much further than just slapping it on, as I was doing before.

All of this in a WEEK and using my normal products! All in all, this is time consuming, but the results have been nothing short of remarkable!

A word about essential oils. They work! If you are short of cash, you are better off buying very simple and cheap natural products and spending your money on the oils, which you can add in. Some lavender drops in olive oil, almond oil, or jojoba replaces expensive skin moisturizing oils. An awesome face scrub is made by putting oatmeal in a blender (to chop it up, use the regular kind..not the quick oats) then taking in out and adding water and a couple drops of either lavender or lemon oils (depending on what your skin needs). A few drops of lavender in your mascara makes it go further by keeping it smoother longer. I don't have an issue with saggy skin, but sage, pin and lemongrass drops in almond oil is supposed to work great. Grapefruit essential oil works on cellulite. Using high quality essential oils (doTerra or Young Living) you can make a lot of your own stuff. Lavendar or helicrusum (the later is expensive) is great for getting rid of scars. Melaluca (also called tea tree oil) straight on zits does wonders (even better with a hot compress).

3-4 months experience with chizu saeki's skincare routine

I have been following Chizu Saeki's skincare for about 3-4 months now. I can honestly tell you that her skincare routine is not a bad one even though it takes up A LOT of your time in the morning and at night.

I can't say that all the time that you are going to spend massaging your face in front of the mirror is worth it, especially for young women. If you don't have wrinkles and stuff, you will not see much of a difference except that your skin is getting quite soft and a LITTLE BIT clearer. However, if you do have wrinkles, this skincare routine might benefit you in some extent. From my experience, most of the fine lines will fade away, just not the deep wrinkles but then again those may need more than just 3-4 months of massage and stuff.

As one of the reviews mentioned before, her skincare routine is not cheap. You need to invest in more stuff than what you saw on the first few pages. The total investment can add up to hundreds of dollars if you are not that into drugstore products.

Also, please take note of the lotion Chizu Saeki used to make her lotion mask. It is not the normal lotion we would think of. This lotion is something like a toner but not quite. If you want to see how her "lotion" looks like, just go to Nars counter and ask to see their hydrating lotion(which is what Chizu Saeki mentioned in her book) or go to Shiseido counter and ask to see their softner (which might be referred to as toner sometimes).

decent, but not what i was after...

as a lifelong pianist, i am always looking for what i consider to be 'proper' arrangements of music (what the artist actually plays). while i am still glad to have this book of music, the arrangements are not what i was hoping for. as with most modern sheet music books, the arrangement has a somewhat accurate base line, however the treble line is a semblance of what the artist is singing, not the actual music.

this book would be recommended to someone who wants to hear what the song sounds like with the artist singing...and not what they are actually playing.

Now you can make her songs your own

Lana Del Rey is one of the most interesting song writers out there, and I think some of her songs will become classics. This edition goes deep, capturing some of her Lizzie Grant stuff like "Yayo" in the "Paradise Edition". I wish it also had "Hundred Dollar Bill." I wish this edition also had Young And Beautiful, but it doesn't. Fortunately, the discounted price makes up for the extra dough I will be shelling out for Young And Beautiful. I'm looking forward to singing though the songs. And maybe even doing some of it as jazz arrangements with a band. I'm trying to figure out why another person ordering this was upset that the melody lines are only approximations of what the song actually is. You can't always capture someone's vocal style with written notes, and most of the American Songbook is meant to be performed to taste. And even Mozart is edited by those who have opinions about what the diacritical marks should be. Take these songs and make them your own. Lana would like that. (And so would Lizzie

This is a book I've been waiting for for months, well - years really.

In the world where 'pivot is the new normal' with job uncertainty and dissatisfaction, we all need to constantly scan ourselves and our environment for opportunities to pivot - or get pivoted. The author gives us a clear and easy-to-follow 4-stage process for career change: Plant - Scan - Pilot - Launch. The framework is logical, well researched and well-explained. It's accompanied by practical exercises and templates and other tools to help readers through the process.

It's not your usual 'quit today, sit on the beach in Thailand tomorrow' type of book. The author promotes a well-thought out and researched approach, emphasising 'shifting naturally' and a continuous process rather than a radical step.

It's well-written, practical, thoughtful and thorough. A must-read for those considering a career change, at any stage in their lives!

It is one of the more liberal orders in the Church, taking very public stands in the U.S. on behalf of social justice causes such as the promotion of immigrants’ rights and humanitarian aid, including assistance to Africa’s poor, and against American involvement in “unjust wars.” Jesuits have played an important part in Americanizing the Catholic Church and in preparing Catholic immigrants for inclusion into American society.

Starting off with the first Jesuit to reach the New World — he was promptly murdered on the Florida coast — Schroth focuses on the key periods of the Jesuit experience in the Americas, beginning with the era of European explorers, many of whom were accompanied by Jesuits and some of whom were Jesuits themselves. Suppressed around the time of the American Revolution, the Society experienced resurgence in the nineteenth century, arriving in the U.S. along with waves of Catholic immigrants and establishing a network of high schools and universities. In the mid-twentieth century, the Society transformed itself to serve an urbanizing nation.

Schroth is not blind to the Society’s shortcomings and not all of his story reflects well on the Jesuits. However, as he reminds readers, Jesuits are not gods and they don’t dwell in mountaintop monasteries. Rather, they are imperfect men who work in a messy world to “find God in all things” — and to help their fellow men and women do the same.

Schroth, a Jesuit priest and professor of humanities at St. Peter's College in Jersey City, N.J., tells the story of the Society of Jesus' presence in North America in this account that begins with a martyrdom on the coast of Florida in 1566. From humble beginnings as missionaries bent on converting Native Americans, the society grew over nearly five centuries on this continent into an organization best known today for its work in education and social activism. In between, members have served as war chaplains and antiwar protesters, high school and college educators, and writers and editors addressing church and societal issues through the community's influential magazine America. Blending history and analysis, Schroth chronicles the society's weaknesses and failures, too, including its foot-dragging on racial issues, ranging from its involvement in slavery in the 19th century to slowness in integrating its schools in the 20th. Schroth also discusses the community's decline in numbers, but he ends on a hopeful note, quoting the late Karl Rahner: There will always be men who... pass by all the idols of this world and dare to give themselves unconditionally to the incomprehensibility of God, seen as love and mercy. This is absorbing reading for those with an interest in the Jesuits. (Oct.)

About the Author

Raymond A. Schroth, S.J., is a Jesuit priest and a journalist. He is the author of six books, including Dante to Dead Man Walking: One Reader's Journey through the Christian Classics, and American Journey of Eric Sevareid. He has also written more than 300 articles and reviews on politics, religion, and the media, which have appeared in such publications as the Los Angeles Times, Boston Globe, Newsday, and America, and he is an award-winning media critic for the National Catholic Reporter, for which he writes a regular column.

If you, as I, graduated from a Jesuit university (in my case, Fordham), you simply have to add this volume to your collection. I had the added incentive of living in Lake George, NY, and having cherished as my personal hero for many years Father Isaac Jogues, Jesuit missionary to the Algonquin and Iroquois and the first white man to see the body of water he named Lac du Saint Sacrement in 1646. Father Schroth is a solid writer who presents both a scholarly and well-balanced treatment of his subject matter, entirely unafraid to consider both the splendid triumphs and undoubted failings of the order in America. He does a particularly good job on the founding and early trials of the Jesuit institutions of higher learning. In sum, a fine read.

One person can make a world of difference.

In his book "The American Jesuits: A History" Raymond Schroth recounts the long history of the Society of Jesus from its genesis as a small group of followers of a Spaniard named Ignatius Lopez of Loyola to the greatest teaching order this world has known. But unlike many previous works on Jesuits, Fr. Schroth extolls both the noble and ignoble facets of the order. From stories of men willing to be martyred "For the Greater Glory of God" to a disgraceful exclusion from the order of those of Jewish ancestry. An order consisting of men working in the service of others and men in pursuit of power, often concurrently.

Fr. Schroth is a master storyteller as well as a thorough historian. This book is well worth reading.

the Good, Bad, Indifferent

Great history of American Jesuits written lucidly, EZ to follow, well-organized. The author depicts the company's transition from
a preeminent educational power-house (following WWII) to a more social-conscious impetus---looking to under-developed areas such as South America, India, and to the disadvantaged in the USA.
The Jesuit influence has dimmed in academe due to adherence to Scholastic pedagogy---very rich in classical literature (Latin & Greek & verbal/written expression), but extremely weak in math, science and economics---with the result that the modern Jesuit on the typical school college campus is more or less redundant.
But their influence is strong in under-developed countries where their work with the poor and oppressed is not particularly welcomed by the affluent power-structure.
There are many heroes in this story. Tho fewer in numbers the current company may be more effective in following the mission envisioned by their great founder Ignatius Loyola.
