Excellent read ! Required reading for all Americans

Brigitte is an excellent author who writes from personal experience. Her native Lebanon was once a prosperous liberal open society until it was destroyed by radical Islam. This book was written in 2006 and it is truly remarkable to see what has transpired in 10 years thanks to ineffectiveness on the part of both the US and European governments and "political correctness ". Not only do we have ISIS but we also have our president & elected officials continuing to deny/ignore the FACTS that Islam is not a peaceful religion & that it has an agenda to destroy everything we hold dear in our liberal society. As a Christian convert with Jewish blood I am very concerned over the events taking place right now in Europe where Christians & Jews are being assaulted in France as they exit their worship services. This is not being reported much due to political correctness. France will surely be the next Lebanon. If you value your life & the lives of your loved ones, do yourself a huge favor & ignore the mainstream media opinions & analysis when the next terror attack takes place. Listen to an expert who has lived through it all; that expert is Brigitte !

Wake up & smell the coffee.

A very good read, even though it is aimed mainly at an American audience. As they say in the USA, perhaps we, too, should "wake up and smell the coffee". I would also recommend the sequel "They Must Be Stopped". It should also be pointed out, however, that both of these books are mainly speaking of the threat posed by RADICAL Islam, not every muslim.

Among the subjects investigated in this searching analysis are kingship and magic participation, the institution of marriage, power and the state, Messianism, the doctrine of rebirth, the two kinds of love (Agape and Eros), the creation of the sexual self, feminine psychology and masculine ideology, and psychology beyond the self.

About the Author
Otto Rank (1884-1939), one of the most important figures in psychoanalysis, wrote several influential works on the mind, art, literature, and religion, including The Incest Theme in Literature and Legend and Psychology and the Soul, both published by Johns Hopkins. Gregory C. Richter, Ph.D., is a professor of German and linguistics at Truman State University. E. James Lieberman, M.D., is a practicing psychiatrist and a clinical professor of psychiatry at George Washington University. Richter and Lieberman previously translated Rank's Psychology and the Soul. Robert A. Segal, Ph.D., is a professor of religious studies at Lancaster University, and a renowned authority on mythology.

Beyond Brilliant

Rank proves the truth of the thesis that a teacher has done his job when he becomes the student. This tour de force on Freudian psychological thought extends the bounds beyond anything that Freud, his teacher and mentor could have ever imagined himself.
Every sentence is lucid and compelling.
This book sparkles and speaks mostly to man's fears and irrationalities. But it does not try to exorcise or explan them away. For the first time a theory accepts them both as integral parts of the fabric of the human condition. The treatment of ideologies alone is worth the price of ten books, but there is more, a lot more: on creativity, social organization, human personality, etc. Ten stars!

Embracing the paradox ...

The odd thing with both Freud & Lacan is that, having promoted the notion of the unconscious in all its vicissitudes & unknowability, they then proceed to map & double-guess it. The result, in short, a 'rule-book' for the unconscious.

Rank makes no such mistake ... he prods & weaves, essays & intuits, but never reduces the vagueries to maps, schemas or graphs ... on the contrary, Rank discerns & celebrates the paradoxical character of the godworm.

He's not an easy read, but a necessary one.

Best for the Last?

Rank's last book, the only one he wrote in English, was published two years after his untimely death in 1939. As his biographer (Acts of Will: The Life and Work of Otto Rank), I paid it too little heed, as some informants interviewed 25 years ago felt that because the book was not quite finished, it might have been altered in the process of getting it published. I now doubt that. Like other reviewers I find it slow going but rich, deep, sensitive, and brilliant. It requires and deserves re-reading. Unfortunately Dover has let it go out of print, but it seems to be readily available used. Only 1,000 of the hardback were printed; the paperback appeared around 1958 (several different covers were used). Another important Rank book first became available in a full English translation in 1998: Psychology and the Soul: A Study of the Origin, Conceptual Evolution, and Nature of the Soul.

The best book to have on your desk

I have every echo book on the market. I teach, and am a FT echo tech. This is my favorite. Brief, to the point, accurate, and every paragraph is jammed with the stuff to know about echocardiography. This is THE book to have on your desk and to sneak onto the desks of the Drs you work with. If I wrote a book on echo this would be it.

The kindle version of this classsic textbook the Wash manual is excellent. I truly believe it belongs in the library of the healthcare provider interested in echocardiography.

Definitely not a primer book if new to the subject. I would recommend "Echo made easy" by Kaddoura for anyone new to the subject and supplement it with this book which is more detail with description on the techniques and the calculation involved in echo.

Great Overall View of Tudor Enjoyments

In studying the Tudor era for my character role in a local Renaissance Faire, I ran across this book by Alison Sim during a search. It's a wonderful book divided into various chapters centering on separate items which made up Tudor enjoyments. Chapters in the book include clothing, architecture, reading, dancing, theatre, and hunting & games, to name a few. Ms. Sim's writing is not the least bit dry and makes the facts enjoyable to read about. It's a must for anyone like me who is studying the time period to improve upon their faire or SCA persona as well as to add to their knowledge in general.

What was it like?

This is a bit scholarly but I love it - it TELLS you what went on! Each chapter deals with a different subject in detail, but easy reading Not a fluff piece, which some people might not like, but still not dull or stuffy. Very informative for those who really want to know what it was like!

Very interesting, provocative and well-articulated ideas, but needs major editing

The book presents a viewpoint you wouldn't find anywhere near the mainstream discourse on race, crime and urban dysfunction in America.

While it is well-researched and quite articulate, it needs major editing. Sometimes the same sentence is repeated verbatim at different parts of a chapter. In general, chapter structure needs to be tightened. Punctuation needs to be re-checked.

Other than that basic editing nitty-gritty, this is a very worthy, gutsy, and long overdue contribution to intellectual debate in the country.

The Most Violent City in America -- And This Book Offers the Reason Why

2013 FBI stats show that Chicago is now America's violent city, with the highest murder rate. A population 1/3 the size of New York boasts a higher number of individuals murdered.

Almost all murder suspects are black.

"Second City Confidential" doesn't pull punches. It goes right for the TKO, providing details and an incredible number of footnotes that conclusive show the "sons of Obama" are the reason Chicago is America's most violent and dangerous city.

Confessions of a Hollywood Stunt Man is the thrilling saga of a five-foot-four, 18 year old kid who became a stunt double for Hollywood’s most famous short men, women and children. In an adventurous, daring career spanning 40 years, Jesse Wayne details the many comedic and tragic incidents in front & behind the cameras, including a vicious murder of an 8 year old black kid on a New Orleans film location. When the Stuntmen’s Association of Motion Pictures was formulated in 1961, he documented its history as secretary, treasurer and board member.

Jesse appeared in over 500 TV productions and feature films, in addition to hundreds of live stunt shows. If this seems like a lot, it's because he began in the early days of Los Angeles' live television, when he was eight years old. His most exhilarating experiences was meeting and working with the greatest actors, writers, producers and directors of the 20th Century.

In 1959, Jesse became Mickey Rooney's stunt double at MGM. Continuing, he doubled small men, women, and virtually every child actor in Tinseltown. Jesse performed Fights, Car Work, Stair Falls, Bicycles, High Work, High Falls and Horse Work. Fire Gags became one of his prime specialties. Pollard, and Mel Torm� and so many more.

Jesse has also performed behind the camera as a first assistant director, cinematographer, videographer, director, gun coach, and just about every other job on a movie set.

What a ride!!!

I have known Jesse for many years, and have anxiously awaited the publishing of his book. Jesse is the real deal, and the book he has written reflects his experience and expertise in the dangerous and demanding field of the Hollywood stunt man. During the years I have known him I have always enjoyed the opportunities I have had to listen to him recount many of his experiences, and reading his very entertaining book has given depth and breadth to so many of the stories I have enjoyed so much. Thank you, Jesse, for sharing your adventures with those of us who have boring "normal" jobs and will never know the thrills you experienced on a daily basis.

Stories from a Stunt Man

What it Takes To Be A Stuntman in Movies and TV. Good look at a Mickey Rooney lookalike who has made his living in the stunt business. The book opens with a telling of how the fire escape stunts were done in Stanley Kramer's It's a Mad, Mad Mad Mad World. Jesse Wayne relates how and why he got into the stunt trade.
I had read Yakima Canutt's biography years ago so I am familiar with other biographies of stunt men. Note: Since Jesse Wayne was short in stature, he doubled Mickey Rooney, children and women.
Highly recommended.

What a Great Book

Jesse's attention to detail made this book hard to put down. As a youngster, I grew up visiting the sets watching Jesse work with my father (a stuntman himself). Now being a stuntman myself for many years, it has been a pleasure to relive a lot of those historic days through Jesse's words. Great job Jesse!
