Wonderful book

As an abdominal radiologist at a cancer center, I find this book to be an excellent reference, an enjoyable read, and an indispensable addition to my library.

The book is organized by organ system, with additional chapters on imaging techniques. There are tons of high quality images (with arrow annotations!) in addition to interspersed color drawings which nicely illustrate concepts.

The organ systems are broken down into logical chapters - for example under Pancreas, there are chapters on "Imaging", "Normal Variants", "Solid Masses", "Cystic Lesions", "Acute" and "Chronic Pancreatitis", and "Diffuse Pancreatic Disease".

Multiple tables, imaging algorithms and "key point" boxes abound. For example, an algorithm on "Practical Approach to Pancreatic Cystic Lesions" makes quick work of the potentially difficult task of deciding when to recommend follow-up versus intervention.

Also, this book comes with online access so you don't have to lug the two volumes with you. (Minor criticism: I would have preferred the images in the online access to automatically be full size instead of having to click on them to enlarge them.)

Overall, I highly recommend this book!

I bought this book couple days ago... truly, I was in doubt at first thinking about buy it or not... But after free preview trial at [...], I decided to get it immediatly!
I'm a general radiologist who face abdominal imaging cases in a daily manner, and my bible for this section was Federle Diagnostic Imaging Abdomen. But this book is much better! The material and topics are organized in impressive pattern, information is not only bare facts and sentences, but greatly written text that contains useable information which is pleasure to read. In addition to many presentable images, you'll find an amazing box titled: What the Referring Physician Needs to Know in addition to Key Facts and Classical Signs boxes at the end of each charpter, with customized summary of the provided information.
I highly recommend this book for all colleagues who deal with abdominal imagimg in daily practice.

He has published numerous technical articles in trade magazines, and is a best-selling author of a number of professional books including "Data Warehousing, Data Mining and OLAP"(with Steve Smith); "Client/Server Architecture"; "SYBASE and Client/Server Computing" (with George Anderson); and "APPC: Introduction to LU6.2". These books are published internationally, and had been translated in many languages including Chinese and Korean. His latest book, "Building Data Mining Applications for CRM", is scheduled to be published in December 1999.

Stephen Smith is the President and CEO of Optas, Inc. the leading provider of web-based Customer Relationship Management tools for the Pharmaceutical and Healthcare industries. Mr. Smith holds a BSEE from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and an MS from Harvard University. He has been working in the fields of Data Mining and Data Warehousing for the past 15 years. His initial work included research into new data mining techniques and optimized database sorting for massively parallel supercomputers. His recent work has included applying these technologies to real world business problems in managing customer databases, including directing the teams that were responsible for the creation of the data mining tools: Darwin (at Thinking Machines and now at Oracle) and Discovery Server (at Dun & Bradstreet). Disappointing Attempt to Cash In on a Phrase

I really like Kurt Thearling's writing, in general--he has written some very clear and practical papers on data mining. But I was badly disappointed by this book. I should have guessed from the complex title that the book is merely an attempt to cash in on the current interest in "customer relationship management" or CRM. In my opinion, CRM is not about data mining--see Dick Lee's book, The Customer Relationship Management Survival Guide, for a much more substantial treatment of CRM. In trying to be a book about CRM, this volume also does a poor job explaining data mining techniques--I strongly recommend Linoff and Berry's second book, Mastering Data Mining, instead. In short, I don't think that this is the book you want, no matter what you might be looking for.

Great for producers

I've read many books on the subject and this one is the first that is easy to understand. It walks you through the all definitions, background information, reasoning and software needed. You learn the general principals and can translate them to any business. I also bought 'Mining the Web' which, in my opinion, was too focused on ecommerce. If you only buy 1 book - this should be it.

A wonderful book on braiding and hair styling!

I never was able to French-braid my hair and had despaired of ever being able to learn until I got this book. It gives clear, concise, step-by-step instructions not only on how to make the braid (and many other styles) but where exactly to place your hands while doing it. The more complicated styles have two sets of instructions: a short one for those who are more experienced at hairstyling, and another that breaks it down into easy steps that even a klutz (like me) can follow. It also provides numerous hints and tips on general hairstyling, and tells what types of hair work best with each style.
Since I got this book, I've been trying a new style from it every day, and have gotten many compliments from co-workers. There are special-occasion styles as well as everyday ones. The book is geared towards adults, unlike many of the other similar ones I've seen which are aimed more at little girls. Take it from a klutz -- if you've been trying unsuccessfully to learn to French-braid or trying to find a new look, this book is a must-have!

Best Book of Braids and Updos!

Part of the Klutz series of books and originally intended for older children and young teens, Hair has gained a following among long-haired women of all ages because it is simply the best book out there for attractive long hair styles. When I grew my hair out after many years of wearing it short, I went looking for a nice book of hairstyles for long hair. I looked everywhere I could think of with little success -until I found Hair in a bookstore's children's section. Don't be put off by the Klutz label or the fact that there is a box of ugly hair accessories physically attached to this book. It provides excellent illustrations and easy-to-understand directions for 32 hairstyles, by my count. The styles are for medium length to long hair. Some styles would be better suited for thinner hair and some for thick. The illustrations and directions are given for doing the hairstyles on yourself, not on someone else. If you are doing someone else's hair, some adjustment can be made. Covered in the book are various types of twists and rolls, tucks and buns, braids, French braids, inverse French braids (cornrows), herringbones, and ropes. There are casual styles, styles suited to work, and many that could be quite formal. Page layouts are attractive and well-designed. The book is spiral-bound so it will lie flat while you are fiddling with your hair. Highly recommended for long-haired girls and women, ages about 10 and up. Makes a great gift!
There is a cardboard protrusion on the bottom of this book to which the box of accessories is adhered. This prevents the book from being stood up on a book shelf. You can cut it off with a razor blade and a ruler. Then your book will sit perfectly on your shelf.

So simple even a dad can use it

My hair hasn't touched my collar since 1983. Over two decades of military experience. A masters degree. Over twenty years of training with any weapon I could get my hands on, or fighting with empty hands. Just to be a six year old girl's hairdresser (among other things). Such is fatherhood.

Dignity and machismo be d*****, if I going to do it, I'm going to do it as well as I can. This book was a huge help. Before this excellent Klutz Press publication, I was limited to pony tails and simple variations on the theme. Now, I can braid, herringbone, and twist with the best of them. I'm not so good at french braids, but the girl's hair is very fine and I understand it is hard to do a good french braid in extremely fine hair.

The instructions are clearly laid out and easy to understand. The techniques are basic, but provide a "vocabulary" that can be expanded into a wide range of styles for even the most unpleasant mornings when nothing is quite right. The mysteries of the rat-tail comb have been revealled to me, and I won't attempt anything harder than a pony-tail without it again. The single strongest point has to be the clarity of the instructions. Everything is described in simple words and clear pictures that even I could grasp.

Several reviewers commented on the difficulty of doing these techniques by yourself. I will defer to their experience as I never tried to do any of these on myself.

The only downside to this book is that I have been blacklisted by a number of fellow dads after their wives said "Van can do a Victorian twist, why can't you do anything other than a pony tail?"

Mmmmmmmm...

After reading Holy Blood, Holy Grail, this book looks like a kid's atempt to explain something but not knowing exactly what he must explain. To much of personal belief are embeded here, personal attacks to whatever doesn't agree with the writer are everywhere in this book. The book cannot be taken seriously due to the nature in wich his author wrote it.

Great Dissapoinment

I had the greatest expectations about reading the book, but it's really a complete dissapointment. Conclusions are so obvious that can be done at the first pages- The Sion Priorate it's an invention of Mr. Placard-. If you're looking for something in the Da Vinci Code line, DON'T buy this book, it's a waste of money.

Hit and miss but worth the time

I am not a poetry officianado, but I have been trying to read more of it lately.

Overall I enjoyed this book. There were some poems I didn't really get/like. Several poems that reminded me of Ed Sherman. A few poems that I wished were longer. A lot of poems that I thought were good but will never dwell on. And a handful that I really loved and want to hang in my memory for a while.

There wasn't much originality here, in my opinion. I didn't have to trudge through this to finish it, but I still felt like nearly everything in this book has already been said a million times, and better, by somebody else.
